For those of you who don't know who Donte Stallworth is, he is a NFL player for the Cleveland Browns. Stallworth was involved in a DUI manslaughter in March 2009 resulting in the death of a guy named Mario Reyes. In June 2009. Stallworth accepted a plea agreement in which he pleaded Guilty to the charges set forth. As part of his plea agreement he has to spend 30 days in jail, 2 years house arrest and 8 years probation. He has also came to some sort of agreement with the Reyes family compensating them for there lost.
For some reason people are having a hard time accepting this dudes plea agreement. They believe justice was not served. They think just because he is an athlete he is receiving special treatment.
I am on both sides of the table. On one side I do believe just because he is an athlete he is receiving special treatment. Let's keep it real, if he was the everyday average Joe, he would have gotten those 15 years. But it's true when they say money talks. But on the other hand, the Reyes family is cool with it, so who are we. They are the true victims. This man has to live with the fact that he killed someone because he was intoxicated. I think that is punishment enough. He was man enough to admit he was wrong. Also you have to realize that the guy he killed was apparently J-walking. But that is still no excuse.
Everyone needs to realize Stallworth did the crime and he will be doing the time for the rest of his life. Leave that man ALONE!!!
